Common Questions

What is Duale Ausbildung?

Duale Ausbildung is Germany's dual vocational training system. Candidates learn practical skills at a company while also attending vocational school. Company-based trainees receive a monthly training allowance during their programme.

Can Indonesian candidates apply for Ausbildung in Germany?

Yes. Candidates from countries outside the EU can undertake vocational training in Germany if they meet the programme and immigration requirements, including securing an eligible training place and obtaining the appropriate visa.

Which hospitality Ausbildung programmes are available?

Hospitality programmes include hotel management, gastronomy, restaurant and event service, cooking, kitchen operations and system gastronomy. Programmes generally last two to three years.

Do I need previous hospitality experience?

Not necessarily. Ausbildung is vocational training, so candidates are applying to learn a profession. Employers may still consider previous education, experience, motivation and language ability when selecting candidates.

Do I get paid during Ausbildung?

Yes, for company-based dual vocational training, trainees receive a monthly training allowance from their training company. The amount varies according to the profession, employer, region and year of training.

What level of German do I need?

B1 German is normally required for a vocational-training visa. A higher level can improve your ability to follow vocational-school lessons and communicate confidently at work. International nurses generally need at least B2 for professional recognition.

How long does hospitality Ausbildung take?

Depending on the profession, hospitality Ausbildung generally lasts two to three years. For example, Fachkraft für Gastronomie is a two-year recognised programme, while Hotelfachmann/-frau is a three-year programme.
